RE: Mid Atlantic Group 2nd ELK NECK MD RALLY Sept. 26-28,2008

Robo...I'm sorry to hear this has hit so close to home. I've been following the story. It's just one that has caught my attention, esp. with this guys priors and what he was up to. MAN! It is so sad. I'll continue to keep the family and your son in my prayers!

RE: Extended tire spacing chocks

It's to add stability...I'll tell you we get a much nicer ride out of our Passport than we did our Antiqua. Not sure it's the tire spacing, but not sure it isn't. Thanks Vader..we had those with the antigua..wont work on the new trailer...the space between the tires is much to far apart. Still looking for a good scissor chock option..I just prefer them....esp. when you have to use your levelers...easier to get a scissor chock in.

RE: Towing OVER capacity..... too many doing this....

All this back and forth is interesting. The OP wanted to know if he should/could say something to those he sees at campgrounds that seem to him to be over capacity. Well, I for one would say sure....just do it in a pleasant/politically correct manner and make it a discussion of the "rv clubbers". As for me...I personally get very nervous when I see a set-up that looks like the tv is pulling more than it's rating. I feel it is a risk to my family and I do my best to avoid it, even stopping for a break to let them get ahead of me. We pull a 26ft TT with a dry weight of 4400lbs and max of 6000lbs with a TV rated for 7200lbs. That's where I am comfortable and I wouldn't go above that weight or length with my current tow vehicle. My thought is.....I'd rather be safe than sorry and I'm not talking about damage to property, I'm talking about damage to life. So, if you are comfortable going over your rating...enjoy. I might avoid being near you on the road, but that is my choice. I also might think you to be a bit lunatic, but that is my choice. An example I saw recently was a Nissan Pathfinder pulling a new 2009 Outback Loft. Now that combo, I think most here will admit....is DANGEROUS. And not just because of tow capacities or GVWR but because of the wheel base....that's a terrible combo for wheel base even if it had a WDH. My thought...if you don't have the tow vehicle...don't buy the trailer.

Extended tire spacing chocks

Our 2008 Passport 240qs has a greater width between the tires than most trailers do. To measure from front to back tire at the smallest distance it's 16". I know that there are other Keystone products out there with this issue. My question is....I would like to use scissor chocks between the wheels, but I haven't found any that extend wide enough. Anyone know of any good ones?

RE: Mid Atlantic Group 2nd ELK NECK MD RALLY Sept. 26-28,2008

How about a midnight snipe hunt? Sounds great if I can stay up that late! I'm old!! Flashlight lollipop hunt for the little ones? I think they'd love that! Flashlight beer can hunt for the big kids? hehehe I'll watch with my wine glass in hand. I wouldn't mind an egg toss, egg rolling contest, three-legged race, or ultimate frisbee game if we can get the gimps on their feet by then. LOL all of the above sound fun to me. Although some I'll have to watch since my vertigo will prevent me from participating...but then again, my vertigo would give everyone a few good laughs. Maybe next year we can caravan to Shady Maple for either a breakfast or dinner?? We wont be arriving until after school on Friday and have to leave on Sunday (dang kids school schedule gets in the way of all our fun). So plan away, not sure we can make this one. We will have our pot luck luau on Saturday eve with a door prize game to follow. YUMMMMMMM.....can't wait. I had wanted to bring a few toys for the Hugs sister's family, but I will have to re-check on our available space. Thanks...I really appreciate it, but please don't go out of your way for this. As a side note on my other sister....she's been in the hospital for 3 1/2 weeks now and might be sent home today. She'll go home with several tubes and gadgets and a home health nurse regularly visiting, but at least it's home. She has a whole in her bladder and her bowels have a couple of issues, so there's a 50/50 shot she'll be back in for surgery in a few weeks. Mentally and physically, she needs to wait for that and heal some. Thanks everyone for all your thoughts and prayers for both my sisters...it means a lot. We were once 5 sisters struggling through a tough upbringing. Now we are down to 4 and two are pretty sick. There's nothing like sisterhood!!! All the fun, fights, and memories!

RE: 2009 Mid-Atlantic Killens Pond Gathering Apr 3-5 2009

If we make Killens, then we can mark DE off our RVing map! Oh, than you MUST come so you can make that mark!! And we are so close to DE. What is it? Maybe 2 hours from Annapolis...if that? I think it took us about that from our storage site in Pasadena. It was an easy, pleasant drive though.

RE: Mid Atlantic Group 2nd ELK NECK MD RALLY Sept. 26-28,2008

Happy Birthday Gay and Sharon......and many many many more! Sorry to be belated. We just got home from Gettysburg. Stayed at Artillery Ridge and didn't like it at all. Will continue to go to our favorite Gettysburg KOA. But what fabulous weather!!!!! Chris.....good luck with the boyfriend thing...my niece had a guy like that for a couple of years and my sister and BIL kept telling her that he wasn't 'the guy'. After awhile, she realized it on her own. I dread the soon to come time of guys with our daughter. Scares me to death!

RE: Keystone TT's....any good?

We have a keystone passport. Almost bought the outback version, but it was 700lbs heavier for not much added benefit in our opinion. We loved both models. I was partial to the white cabinets and wood grain flooring in the outback, but hey, I love the passpor too. We haven't had any issues so far. Like another poster said, every manufacturer has it's lemons, so there will always be some negative comments out there. And at times, those who are displeased speak up much louder and much more often. Pick the trailer you like and just make sure you pdi the heck out of it before you leave the lot. Also, make sure you're buying from a great dealership...that makes a huge difference! Enjoy

RE: Mid Atlantic Group 2nd ELK NECK MD RALLY Sept. 26-28,2008

Is this rally open to anyone? We camped with a few of these families last year at Gettysburg, and we had a good time. Come on down...just make the reservation and let us know what site!

RE: Full hookup question

You'll get varying opinions on this one, but here's what made up my mind for me......that hole you stick your gray water in is the same hole the black tank drains into....there have been several horror stories on this site about the campgrounds septic backing up and it coming through the pipes and spreading all over bathroom floors and walls....I don't want what goes down that hole to back up into my TT...so, I keep it close all the time and just keep the hose connected. I don't mind walking around the trailer once a day and pulling the drain handle for a couple of minutes, then closing it...Better safe than sorry in this case...Just my humble opinion.

RE: Mid Atlantic Group 2nd ELK NECK MD RALLY Sept. 26-28,2008

Well, we're back to the grind today and after such a nice, relaxing weekend, it's hard to be at work. Two REALLY stupid things we saw this weekend: 1) A Nissan Passport V6 (tow rated around 6000lbs), pulling VERY SLOWLY a 2009 Keystone Outback Loft (31 feet and dry weight starting at about 6500lbs without accessories and this thing is a toy hauler...who knows what he put in it)!!!!!!!!!!! DAHHHHHH.....he was going about 40 in a 65mph. 2) Dark Hollow Falls...raining, thunderstorm rolling in.....signs that say not to climb the falls for risk of death.....8 teenagers, several girls with dressy flip flops on, climb to the top and play in the water pool! I thought I'd stick around and take the action shots for their memorial service, but decided that I'd rather head back to camp and chillax.

RE: Any Similar floor plan?

Hi, Anyone know if there is a similar floor plan to this: http://www.sunvalleyinc.com/products/2/floor-plans#3 We like how there are two bunks and the dinnete doesn't need to folded down. Just not sure how the gaucho bed would be for adults. Take a look at the Fun Finder X160 towards the bottom of the page.

RE: Mid Atlantic Group 2nd ELK NECK MD RALLY Sept. 26-28,2008

Sigh... the earliest we think we can be out of here is Wednesday, so there's no point in trying to salvage the week of camping with my kids in the Poconos. Guess I'm going to end up paying for a full week (since they kept the site blocked off for me) and not get to go at all. Hope everyone else is having a good weekend... Sorry to hear this Chris. That really is a major bumper...someone should write your boss in Washington about getting you guys better planes!!!! Sending well wishes your way for a quick repair and safe trip home.

RE: Mid Atlantic Group 2nd ELK NECK MD RALLY Sept. 26-28,2008

The campground is called Creekside Campground in Edinburg, Virginia..right off our I81...VERY VERY small...26 full hookups and a handfull of tent sites, no pool, no playground, just nature and real down home friendly owners. It's 35 minutes from Luray, so there's stuff that direction. We really like the do nothing campground feel. Most of the other sites are really tight, but they back to the creek and your firepit is on the water. Very nice.

RE: Keystone Passport 280BH VS Coachmen Captiva 290BHS

UPDATE!! We just picked up our new Passport 280 on Fri and drove it 2.5hrs back home. QUESTION! We dry camp near the lake and were surprised how fast our Gray tank filled up. Another camper suggested getting a Honey Cart. Looking for any suggestions on how big or features I should look for. Congrats and welcome to Passport ownership. We just got home from another great weekend in ours. As for the honeytank...our gray tank is a 30 gallon tank, so we bought a portable 30 gallon....glad we went full size. It's expensive, but well worth it. You save a ton over the course of a year or two on non-full hookup sites! Enjoy

RE: Mid Atlantic Group 2nd ELK NECK MD RALLY Sept. 26-28,2008

Hi all, Thanks for the well wishes and prayers for my sister. I do appreciate it. Camping without the children is so absolutly relaxing and peaceful. We had some awesome thunderstorms roll through here last night. No wind..just rain, thunder, and lightning. It woke us up at 4am and we got up and sat in our cool chairs under the awning. It was beautiful. The way the sound of the thunder rolls off the mountains is fabulous! Here are some pics of our site. Yes the deck is all ours. This is the best site in the place. The others are very close together. This is their super site. http://mapshug.com/CS1.JPG http://mapshug.com/CS2.JPG http://mapshug.com/CS3.JPG

RE: Mid Atlantic Group 2nd ELK NECK MD RALLY Sept. 26-28,2008

We are off in a couple minutes for our weekend getaway. My sister does have a perforated bowel, but the CT results show it to be small and after the major surgery she had last week, they don't want to go back in unless they absolutly have to. So she's on "nothing by mouth" at all, getting everything through her pic line for 10 days in the hope of "drying her out" to promote natural healing. Unless there are any obvious downslides, this will be the plan of attack. So, we decided that since she's not going in to surgery and it's all a wait-n-see, we're going on our weekend. We're only 2.5 hours away if she need us. Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!
